FAQ

We develop & build production

A transformer’s purpose is to convert your power source into the correct voltage and current to get the right amount of power where you need it. Contact the power distribution experts at Special Transformers for assistance in selecting the best and most efficient transformer for your project.

Transformers are capable of either increasing or decreasing the voltage and current levels of their supply, without modifying its frequency, or the amount of electrical power being transferred from one winding to another via the magnetic circuit.

The distribution Transformers’ continuous ratings must be 100kVA, 250kVA, 400kVA, and 630kVA. Each transformer must be capable of supplying its rated power, which is defined in IEC 60076-1 as the product of rated voltage and rated current on the line side winding (at centre tap) expressed in kVA.

A transformer is required whenever you want to increase or decrease the voltage supplied. As an example, suppose you have 240v power available but a machine that requires 480v power. If you require any additional information, please contact us.

To select the appropriate transformer, determine the input and output voltages, frequency, and current. The faster the voltage changes, the higher the frequency.  The higher the frequency, the faster the voltage changes. The greater the current, the greater the amount of heat produced.

Transformers can be operated at voltages lower than the nameplate rated voltage in some cases. A transformer should NEVER be operated in excess of its nameplate rating unless a tap changer is provided. When operating at less than the rated voltage, the KVA capacity is reduced proportionally.
